Insight Meditation, also known as Vipassana, is a form of meditation that involves mindfulness of breathing, body sensations and mental phenomena as a means of gaining insight into the true nature of reality. Vipassana is also sometimes translated as "clear-seeing" or "seeing deeply", and is the original form of meditation as taught by the Buddha. However, no experience with the traditation is necessary to attend the Carson/Minden sanghas, and group discussions there often reveal that many participants are practicing their own forms of mindfulness/meditation during the silent sits :)

Currently there are sanghas (gatherings of meditators) in both Carson City and Minden, each with a slightly different format:

1) Wednesdays 6:30-8:00pm in Carson City: This group begins with a 30 minute silent meditation, followed by book discussion, and ends with a short "metta reading". The meeting place is A to Zen at 1803 N Carson Street in Carson City.

2) Thursday 5:30-7:00pm in Minden: This group begins with 30 minutes of Qigong (slow body movement), followed by a 30 minute silent meditation, and then 30 minutes of book discussion. The first Thursday of each month is a sound meditation 6-7pm. Meeting place is O2 Yoga and Wellness at 1557 Zerolene Place in Minden. Plan to arrive early your first time, as the location is tricky to find (Google maps will NOT get you there). TIP: Map your way to 1581 Hwy 395 (Testa Motorsports) and enter the road on the south side of that shop. Then when you see the gas pumps, take a right, follow the dirt road to the end, and take a left.
